Charles Barkley Goes to Jail for DUI Charles Barkley Goes to Jail for DUI

Charles Barkley served his jail time in accordance with his agreement to plead guilty to DUI.

Charles Barkley was released from custody on Monday after he completed the incarceration portion of his sentence for drunk driving in Phoenix, Arizona.  According to a spokesman for the sheriff's department, Barkley finished his time in custody and was released at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2009.  The sheriff's spokesman said that Barkley reported to the jail on Saturday and was then released on Monday.  Barkley was housed separately from the other inmates for his safety.

Barkley is best known for his aggressive, in-your-face play on the NBA basketball court and his NBA commentary as a TNT studio analyst.  Barkley was arrested for DWI / DUI after he was stopped back in December of last year.  According to reports, Barkley failed the field sobriety tests and took a breath test that showed his breath alcohol concentration was almost twice the legal limit for intoxication.  Barkley then pled guilty to DUI / DWI / drunk driving and is now required to install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle.
