Jacksonville Jaguars WR Matt Jones in Jail after Alcohol Admission
According to reports, NFL wide receiver Matt Jones was taken into custody after he admitted to consuming alcohol while on probation. In a plea deal on his possession of a controlled substance charge, Jones entered into a drug and alcohol treatment program sponsored by the NFL. The NFL suspended Jones from the league for three games of the 2008 NFL season.
According to his agent, Jones admitted having a couple of beers while playing golf with friends. Among other conditions, Jones was forbidden from consuming alcohol as part of his plea agreement. As reported by the Florida Times-Union, the prosecuting attorney on the case said that the Judge wanted to emphasize that "even having a beer is against the rules." The prosecutor on case went on to tell the Florida Times-Union, "It's not a terrible infraction, but he broke a rule."
