Republican Arizona State Representative Trish Groe Indicted for Felony DUI Republican Arizona State Representative Trish Groe Indicted for Felony DUI

Arizona State Rep. Trish Groe stands charge of felony DUI and false report to a police officer after a La Paz County grand jury returned a two-count indictment against her on September 18, 2007.

Groe learned of the indictment in a court hearing and now faces one Class 4 felony count of aggravated DUI and one misdemeanor count of false report to a police officer. The aggravated charge is being sought by prosecutors because Groe’s license was suspended at the time of arrest from an unpaid traffic citation.

Groe was arrested for drunk driving on March 22, 2007 after being stopped for driving 70 in a 55. According to officers, results from blood tests indicate her blood-alcohol level was nearing extreme at .148 and .158 percent.

This is not Groe’s first run in with a DUI / DWI arrest – she was arrested and convicted of drunk driving in 1999. Ironically, Groe is a lawmaker that has taken a tough stand against those charged with drunk driving and has supported legislation that is tough on DUI cases.

Groe’s arraignment is scheduled for October 1, 2007, with further court dates to follow. It is unlikely the case would be reached for trial until sometime next year. If she is convicted of the felony DUI, Groe would be forced to vacate her political position.
