Raleigh, North Carolina – Colon Willoughby, the Wake County District Attorney, dismissed over 100 cases involving over 50 defendants. Many of the dismissed charges were driving while intoxicated (DWI) charges.

At issue, the credibility of Trooper Scott Harrison.  In August of 2007, Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens entered an order that stated that Trooper Harrison is “unworthy of belief” because of testimony given during a Drunk Driving case in his court from late 2005.  Judge Stephens dismissed the driving while intoxicated case for an invalid stop.

Trooper Harrison, however, strongly disagreed with the prosecutor throwing out his cases and stood behind his decision to charge those defendants.

This is not the first run-in Trooper Harrison has had with the court system.  Criminal contempt charges were levied against Trooper Harrison for lying to the court and for disruption of the court.  Trooper Harrison pled guilty to the disruption charge while the lying charge was dismissed.
